At our main Ballantyne studio, camps run Monday-Thursday weekly from June 10 – August 22d, two sessions daily, 9am – 12pm & 1 – 4pm. $180/week (10% sibling & additional camp discount).
In Dilworth / Myers Park, our camps take place at the Covenant Presbyterian Recreation Center, Monday – Friday weekly from June 10 – August 16, two sessions daily, 9am – 12pm & 1 – 4pm. $220/week (10% sibling & additional camp discount). No camp the week of July 1.

Mixed Media Camp Description:
Variety is the spice of life, so our summer camps are organized like our regular mixed media class sessions! We won’t be spending a week “under the sea”, but we will inspire kids’ creativity by exposing them to a fun mix of age appropriate projects with varying art mediums, styles, ideas & techniques. Through hands-on exploration, children will learn the basic elements of art such as shape, line, color, texture, form, space & value, as well as pattern & rhythm. Children also learn about famous artists & artistic movements throughout history. At the heart of everything we do, each child’s unique creative “vision” & self-expression is valued and nurtured.
Children will have plenty of time to explore painting, drawing, 3D sculpture, upcycled art, collage, assemblages & printmaking. We’ll also work on lengthier projects such as papier mache. The kids have ample opportunity to work independently as well as to collaborate on fun group projects! We catalog all projects our students have completed & make every effort to avoid repeat projects for our die hard campers who come to multiple weeks of camp or return year after year!

Main Ballantyne Studio: Weekly, Monday – Thursday, June 10 – August 22, 2013 (the week of July 1 – 5, camp will be Mon., Tues., Wed., & Fri.). Two sessions daily: 9am – 12pm, & 1pm – 4pm.

POTTERY + CERAMICS
{ at the Weddington Activity Center }
Clay is cold, squishy, messy, & kids love it! Our pottery / ceramics camp takes place at the Weddington Activity Center, five minutes from our studio, three if you don’t hit the light!
Pottery Camp Description
Students will learn all aspects of creating original works of art out of clay, including hand building and sculpting techniques using a variety of clay tools, glazing techniques, and an introduction to the pottery wheel. Children will finish several pieces of art by the end of this exciting week! Finished glazed projects will be available for pick up the following week. $220/week, covers all materials, including tools, clay, glazes and firing. Ages 6 – 14.

Weekly M – F from June 10 – August 23, with the exception of the week of June 24, July 1 & Aug. 5.

Camp Size:
We strive to maintain a low student/teacher ratio of one teacher for every 8-10 children. Camps are generally limited to approximately 15 children, with at least two facilitators.
Age Groups:
Camps are open to children age 4 – 14 (pottery camps start at age 7). Children are segregated into different age groups to work on age-appropriate projects, or may work on the same open-ended project with modifications for their age.
Snack:
Please pack a light nut-free snack every day & make sure you have completed the Permission Form to notify us of any food allergies and/or special circumstances.
Deposit / Payment / Cancellation & Change Policy:
A non-refundable $75 deposit is required to register. The full balance (less your deposit) is due on the first day of camp. If you need to cancel and have already paid for the session, your payment (less the non-refundable deposit) will be refunded if we are notified in writing one week prior to the start of camp (info@smallhandsbigart.com). If you’d like to change the camp dates & times, please submit a change request via email at least one week prior to the start of camp to info@smallhandsbigart.com, and we will be happy to accommodate your request, space permitting.
