Looking for some Baby Hedgehog Halloween Costume Inspiration? Look no further! This is a super easy and adorable whimsy costume!
It’s the beginning of Fall and you know what that means! Time to turn our thoughts towards cooler weather, better hair days, and of course, baby hedgehogs.
Be honest, if you could, wouldn’t you want to own one (or twenty) of these cuddly little creatures as pets? Well sadly, baby hedgehogs grow up to be adult hedgehogs, which we can’t imagine being nearly as desirable as pets. And, well, we can’t have everything we want anyway. But you CAN make this adorable baby hedgehog costume for Halloween! And, stating the obvious here, if one baby hedgehog is cute, a family of FIVE baby hedgehogs is even cuter! This costume is so simple and inexpensive ~ super quick and easy, and there is a cool “interactive” feature, as you’ll see below.
YOU NEED
- Brown or tan oversized sweater or sweatshirt (pair with brown leggings or tights, and appropriate baby hedgehog footwear of your choice. ~fuzzy slippers?? Or, taking inspiration from the above picture, skip your weekly pedicures for the entire month of October and go barefoot!)
- Approximately 100 wooden clothespins (super cheap in the laundry aisle at Walmart!)
- Brown food coloring, tempera paint, or wood stain
- Headband
- Two small pieces of stiff felt or fabric for ears
HOW TO DO IT
The assembly is so simple it hardly requires any explanation! But here goes…
- Dye the tips of the clothespins with watered down paint, food coloring, or stain and let dry.
- Clip the clothespins all over the back of your sweatshirt. More is more here. You may want to try having a friend just clip them on before you head out the door because they do tend to fall off rather easily, and it may go without saying that driving in the car or riding a bus or any other such function may tend to interfere with the clothespins. Needless to say, dancing in a baby hedgehog costume is an experience that neither you nor anyone near you will soon forget!
- Enlist a group of friends to follow close behind you the entire time you have your hedgehog costume on, retrieving fallen clothespins and reattaching them as needed. This particular feature makes this a great costume for singles mixers, or other social events that call for a fun conversation starter or awkward interaction with strangers. Another idea is you could write secret messages on your hedgehog quills and intentionally leave them where they fall for others to discover later. All sorts of potential here…
- Cut ear shapes out of stiff fabric or felt and glue on to your headband. Miss Katie used a rigid plastic headband. Attach clothespins to the headband, and voila! Cutest costume ever!
