We’re calling these beauties “Chameleon in a Box.”

When we passed out this large square 24×24 brown kraft paper last week we had intended to paint something different, but someone asked to draw a chameleon and everyone chimed in. We would normally use a rectangular sheet of paper, but we squeezed these in as best we could.  Honestly I’ve been chuckling the whole time I’ve been loading these pics – they’re hilarious all scrunched up! Chameleon in a Box might be our new fave!

Students drew with black oil pastel, painted with acrylic, layered chalk on the acrylic after it dried to add bumps and texture (we suggested they only use warm colors of chalk on warm colors of paint, cool on cool, etc.).  Then they traced back over their original lines with black oil pastel again.  Masterpieces, every single one!
