Kim Welling Inspired Shadow Boxes | small hands big art

Who doesn’t love a good shadowbox project?!  We were super inspired last week by this amazing artist who lives in Amsterdam, Kim Welling, and her incredible little “Comfort Boxes” as she calls them. You will be blown away by these beautiful Kim Welling Inspired Shadow Boxes.

We had a beautiful stash of the most unbelievable cigar boxes that were perfect for our Kim Welling Inspired Shadow Boxes!  By the way, can someone explain how cigar companies can continue to produce such ornate and well-crafted wood boxes, most of which also have such beautiful latches??  I just don’t get it in today’s day & age, but I’m not complaining!

Students created the scenes to be about themselves, as a creative form of self-expression so that the viewer could learn a little bit more about them!  We studied Kim Welling’s simplified style of illustration and encouraged students to use minimal color as well.  Her whimsical work was the perfect inspiration! Beautiful! We are in love with the Kim Welling Inspired Shadow Boxes our students created.
