In Elementary

I just found these pictures of this whimsical Winter Inspired Painting Lesson, “Winter Hares,” on our camera and wanted to share them before we get much further into Spring!  We just can’t catch up!!  But the forecast in Charlotte is calling for a wintery mix on Tuesday, so hopefully they’re not too far out of season.  Just to be clear these are hares.  Winter hares.  Not “bunny rabbits”.  They are much too sophisticated to be compared to ordinary bunny rabbits.

We loved loved loved this project that we came up with during a recent snow day camp.  It was a simple instructed drawing project and the results came out better than we ever imagined!  We started by drawing a simple peanut shape for the face, and then a “beard” around the peanut shape for the fluffy neck.  Then the critical part was getting the eyes placed correctly high on the side of the face, then the ears going off the page, shoulders, etc.  We then jazzed them up with some oil pastel fur details & painted them with a shimmery mix of cool watercolors ~ silvery blues, purples, greens….  Amazing!
