Winter Vegetables Acrylic Still Life Study | small hands big art

Hearty winter vegetables were the inspiration for last week’s Winter Vegetables Acrylic Still Life Study in our 9-14 yr. old classes.

We loved the muted colors and earthy textures of these vegetables!  We selected root veggies like beets, carrots, turnips, & rutabaga, as well as a fennel & rich-colored egg plan (which, surprisingly, no one selected for their painting). We used a watered-down acrylic paint technique.  Students were challenged to mix colors from only a few basic primary colors that were set out. Winter Vegetables Acrylic Still Life Study was a beautiful project and had all of us itching to hang the art in a kitchen as soon as possible!
