We’ve never met a succulent we didn’t like.  And what does this have to do with our Alcohol Ink Planter Painting parties, you ask?

Adult Painting Class Charlotte / Small Hands Big Art

At our studio we like to paint succulents, sculpt them out of clay, carve images of them onto little rubber stamps for printmaking – and lately we have been designing ceramic planters for them to live in!

At the same time, our alcohol ink obsession started a few years ago when we partnered with the Isabella Santos Foundation 5K for these playful kid-friendly tooling foil butterflies and dragonflies.

Then we met local Charlotte artist Amanda Moody and became obsessed with her abstract alcohol ink paintings!

From there, we discovered how fun it was to play with alcohol ink on ceramic holiday ornaments. And now… now we are hooked.   We fight the temptation to just walk around the studio and add alcohol ink to anything non-porous: ceramic coffee mugs, stainless steel water bottles, light switch panels…I was stopped by Jennifer as I was about to spruce up my Macbook cover.

So what could make us happier than alcohol ink and succulents becoming friends? NOTHING!

We’re excited to share these fun photos from a few recent Alcohol Ink Planter Workshops.

This medium is so accessible for a process-oriented and playful painting style. We dabble on various papers, tiles, and then each person picks out their planter shape. After we talk about color mixing, and blending processes, you simply get to play and take it away. We promise you will start looking around for the next thing to drip this fun ink onto. After it dries each participant walks over to the potting table and picks their succulent of the day. It’s fun to decorate and walk out with their planter ready for some loving on their living room mantle! What would you want to paint?  Because I’m dying to get my hands onto a ceramic lamp base!
